Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Part-time or Full-time, Medical-Surgical
Job Description: Shifts: Days, Evenings, Nights.  Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, Nursing Supervisor, Medical-Surgical Nurse Manager, and/or Director of Nursing, participates in the delivery of patient care in accordance with FCMC policies and procedures.  Responsible for providing safe and effective patient care to the adult, geriatric and pediatric population based on the nursing process using assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.  Responsible in providing patient education and discharge instructions to patients and families.  Relates effectively with other shifts for continuity of care.  Communicates with the Health Care Providers, Registered Nurses, other departments and nursing units to ensure that patient needs are met.  Uses critical thinking skills in making decisions regarding patient care.  Responsible for professional development in self.  Contributes to the professional growth of others.  Expanded IV Therapy for LPN’s:  Upon successful completion of a (Nursing) Board-approved Intravenous Certification course, offered by a (Nursing) Board-approved provider of Continuing Education, the LPN shall be permitted to perform procedures related to the Expanded Scope of Administration of Intravenous Therapy dependent upon course completed.
Education Level and Experience: Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Iowa. Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).  Rhythm Interpretation Class. LPN Expanded Scope-IV Therapy preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge and understanding of cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturation processes of the adult, geriatric and pediatric population. Ability to assume responsibility and make nursing judgements within the Licensed Practical Nurse’s Scope of Practice.  Computer Skills; including keyboarding.  Legible handwriting, ability to print.  Mandatory Reporter.
